Typically, homeowners are advised to do this at no longer than 10 yearly intervals. If you are a landlord, it is mandatory to do this at a maximum of 5 yearly intervals or if there is a change of tenant. Commercial and industrial installations are to be inspected and tested, typically every 1-3 years.
Estate agents will often ask homeowners to produce an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) to determine the safety of the electrical installation in a home they are selling. This involves inspection and testing of the installation whereby a digital report is produced. It details any observations & recommendations, a schedule of inspections and a schedule of test results.
From this, the person ordering the EICR can make an informed decision of the installation’s state and action any remedial works.

We strongly advise people not to neglect the maintenance of electrical installations in their dwellings (homes), that includes the fire alarm sensors/alarms. These have an expiry date as the sensors degrade over time and will stop operating correctly.
